Do you have any questions?

Feel free to contact us with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.

PVGIS provides information on solar radiation and the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) systems for any location in Europe and Africa, as well as much of Asia and the Americas.

The default language is English, but French, Italian, Spanish and German are also available.

Features

Free and open access to:

  • PV electricity generation potential for different technologies and configurations
  • Solar radiation and temperature, as monthly averages or daily profiles
  • Complete time series of hourly values of both solar radiation and photovoltaic system efficiency
  • TMY data for nine climate variables, formatted for building energy calculation tools
  • APIs for fast, automated access needs
  • Solar resource and PV potential maps, by country or region, in print-ready files
  • PVMAPS, a software suite for users to create custom maps

PVGIS uses high-quality solar radiation data obtained from satellite imagery, as well as ambient temperature and wind speed from climate reanalysis models. The energy efficiency model is validated by measurements carried out on commercial plants at the JRC’s European Solar Test Installation (ESTI). ESTI is an ISO 17025 accredited photovoltaic calibration laboratory for all photovoltaic materials.
